Blogger tells me that my email address does not exist. The truth of the matter is that I simply entered my password incorrectly.
It continues to amaze me that after 12 years (or more) of entering user names and passwords online, designers still can’t get this simple interaction, and its simple error cases, down pat.
I like the ‘push-button publishing’ tagline…

October 6th, 2006 at 9:51 amMaybe there is a registered user at blogger who uses the mistyped e-mail-address? Because if you type something glibberish into the username field, at least I do get a correct error message.
October 8th, 2006 at 12:53 amThat’s the whole thing: the email address is correct, but the password isn’t. Yet it gives me the error that the email address is incorrect.
October 8th, 2006 at 2:43 pmthis is probably the same reason unix would say “login incorrect” on any login/username problem. it can be considered information disclosure to announce that yes, this account exists, you got the password wrong (do try again).
October 13th, 2006 at 9:08 amJay: ‘Login incorrect’ or ‘The email address and password you entered don’t match’ or ‘There’s an error with your login info’ followed by ‘What’s this?’ would still be better than Google’s example, which simply tells me the email address doesn’t exist. I know it exists; it’s my email address.
